From Tuesday, 10 September to Thursday, 12 September 2024, we met for a few days in the Hegelbau of the University of Tübingen, as we did in the spring, to devote ourselves entirely to the Lord’s Prayer (with lots of coffee!). On the one hand, we were able to significantly expand our previous research results, examine further sources from the 8th to 15th centuries (f.e. thirteen volumes of Mansi, Sacrorum concilorum) and make them more accessible (e.g. transcribe 90 small pages written in a cramped hand) in order to gain a broader and more detailed overview of the corpus. On the other hand, we were also able to make use of the results of this year’s conferences and the exchange with other projects: in particular, we worked on our first articles, which are being written as part of the conferences in Utrecht and Leeds.
We also used the time together to plan for the coming year. The focus here was on organising our own conference, which will take place on 25 and 26 September 2025 in Tübingen. However, we also prepared for other conferences in 2025, at which we will present the Lord’s Prayer in its many uses: for example, at the symposium of the Mediävistenverband in Salzburg, where we will talk about addressing God in prayer and the first commandment (March 2025), at the workshop “Catechisms in the Late Middle Ages” in Munich, where we will discuss instructions for spiritual life in interpretations of the Lord’s Prayer (April) or at the International Medieval Congress in Leeds, where we will discuss, among other things, the private use of the Pater Noster in healing charms.
